Transforming Health and Wellness

MaineTransNet is hosting the Transforming Health and Wellness conference at the USM Portland campus in collaboration with USM's Center for Sexualities and Gender Diversity and the Trans Care Collaborative. The purpose of the conference is to raise awareness about health and wellness-related needs of the transgender community, and to address how the many areas of life that affect wellness may be influenced by gender non-conforming experiences. The conference will have workshops geared towards medical and mental health professionals as well as the transgender/genderqueer/genderfluid community. Confirmed presenters include Jean Vermette, Chris Bartlett, M.D., Frank Brooks, LCSW, and Joelle Ruby Ryan, Ph.D. The conference will conclude with a reading by author Jennifer Finney Boylan. She will perform excerpts from both her fiction and nonfiction work, recent opinion pieces published in the New York Times, and give a preview of her new young adult book, FALCON QUINN AND THE BLACK MIRROR.
