Field Internships
Description:
EqualityMaine Foundation has opportunities for interns to join our Field Team! Field Interns support the work of the organization to advance equality for LGBT Mainers by organizing community action around legislative priorities and voter education.
Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with EQME staff and gain hands-on experience leading independent projects. This internship is an excellent opportunity to build political, non-profit and community organizing skills.
Location:
Internships are available in Portland, Saco-Biddeford, Lewiston, Auburn and Bangor, as well as other locations throughout Hancock, Aroostook, Lincoln, Knox, York and Oxford counties.
Opportunities:
- Recruit, train and manage large groups of volunteers
- Help to research opportunities for engagement in local communities
- Participate and help to manage voter education efforts including phone banks and door-to-door canvasses
- Support office and data entry needs
- Other work as needed to support the priorities of the field team
Skills:
EqualityMaine seeks interns who understand and support our mission, are hard-working, and are able to successfully complete projects. Time requirements are flexible and range from 10+ hours per week, preferably with some evening and weekend hours included.
Internships are unpaid. EqualityMaine will work with applicants to meet requirements for academic or community service credits.

Development and Event Intern
Description:
EqualityMaine is seeking a highly motivated, hard working and energetic person who is passionate about the cause of LGBT equality, particularly marriage equality, to fill the position of our Development and Event Intern. The intern will work with our Development Associate to assist and support the day-to-day operations of the development team, including planning and attending events.
Location:
Portland Office
Skills:
- Strong written and interpersonal skills (strong phone skills a must);
- Well-versed in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel (familiarity with mail merging a major plus);
- Flexibility to work some early mornings, late nights and occasional weekends for events.
- Time requirements are flexible and range from 10+ hours per week, preferably with some evening and weekend hours included.
Opportunities:
- Help organize and assist at fundraising events
- Participate in fundraising phone banks (volunteer recruitment and training);
- Lead volunteers in development mailings, making follow-up phone calls on event invitations, researching donor giving history, updating donor information and compiling lists of potential new individual and corporate donors;
- Assist with other team projects as requested by the development team.

Communications Internship
Description:
EqualityMaine seeks an energetic, passionate Social Media & Web Intern for an unpaid position assisting with the creation and implementation of new and social media strategies for achieving our mission of full equality for LGBT people in Maine. The ideal applicant has a passion for all things internet and speaks in hash-tags, like buttons and check-ins. We’re looking for people who are committed to issues of equality and looking to use the web to spur social change.
This internship will be a great opportunity to work with a fantastic, supportive staff at the state’s largest and oldest LGBT advocacy organization.

Skills:
The ideal candidate will have:
- An interest in communications and/or media relations
- Experience with, and passion for, social media (i.e. Facebook, twitter, FourSquare, etc.)
- Eagerness to learn and self-direction
- Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail
Experience with HTML, Drupal, and WordPress are a huge plus, though not required
